Prigušnica je kalem napravljen da ima veliku reaktansu za određenu frekvenciju. Ona je induktivnost koja izoluje naizmenične struje od određenih delova radio električnih kola. Princip rada prigušnice se zasniva na samoindukciji. Mogu se koristiti da blokiraju naizmeničnu struju dok propuštaju jednosmernu. Neke sijalice ne mogu da se upale bez prigušnice među ostalom ni MH ni HPS sijalice ne mogu da se upale bez prigušnice.
